What are the best practices in online education? What meaningful and project-based approaches are showing success? Who are the people to watch, and what sessions at ISTE will best support those who are working to implement effective online and blended learning programs in K-12 education?

Comment by Dr. Larry S. Anderson on February 19, 2012 at 11:04am I am very interested in learning from practitioners how they arrived at using blended learning strategies.
For example, did their effort begin with blended learning, or did they evolve to using blended learning? Are they using a mix of discrete methods and blended throughout their schools? What were the points of impetus that caused them to consider, then adopt, blended learning?
How does an administrator prepare to lead a blended learning environment? Are there different strategies necessary to apply for students in a blended learning environment?
If they were to decide to move away from blended learning to some other technique, what would that be...and how would they chart their course to make that move?
What about costs? Is blended learning a cost-saver? Is there any difference from discrete learning techniques? What are the factors that impact cost variances in establishing and maintaining blended learning programs?
Is online learning an absolutely necessary component of blended learning...or is it possible to have blended learning that does not include online learning? Are these two concepts inextricably related, or are they separate but coexistent?
So many questions. So many experts. So much interest. I am hopeful that this discussion will garner a significant quantity of response. Thanks for creating this area!
Comment by Molly Large on February 27, 2012 at 11:34am What great questions! If only answers were easy... Thanks for raising some of the issues, and hopefully some answers will emerge within this group and from the conference!
Comment by Melanie Borrego on June 11, 2012 at 11:29am I would love to meet up with anyone from the group at ISTE to have a brainstorming session! I've been teaching online since 1998, and blended has actually been tougher for me. I think the trick with blended is actually integrating the two parts of the course and not making them separate entities--and designing a course that way is difficult.
