Social Media as a classroom environment

http://webtowhere.ning.com/

How can social media be used to enhance teaching and learning?

What social media environments do you use with your students?

Social media is becoming a large part of people's lives; young and old. By using them in our classrooms we can help prepare students for the 'real' world around them.

Share your ideas on social media use in the classroom.

I have submitted my research proposal for ISTE 12 and want to include this global project as part of the final paper. Any teachers with students 13 years or older looking to work globally together to explore how a secure and moderated Ning can support learning.

Seeking global schools - students 13-16 years

My students have formed groups at http://webtowhere.ning.com/group/studentgroups

They are waiting to discuss what they are wearing and what is in their closet with other 13 to 16 year olds around the world.

Today some of them took pictures of what they were wearing and are uploading it to their Ning group. Hopefully this will be done on Thursday - I only have them for 2x50 min periods per week.

So far they are just introducing themselves in their groups.

Love to see more schools get involved. So far we have one school from Russia and one from the US.

Students using social media, http://webtowhere.ning.com/group/studentgroups , from Australia, Russia and Romania - we have started to share ideas on a Ning but there is still lots of work still to be done to integrate students. Perhaps with our next task, http://webtowhere.ning.com/group/time-lets-compare , I will be more successful. I am looking at students as active learners together but I don't have it happening yet - has anyone got any ideas to share?

Feel free to join in the project if your students are 13 years +
